Easter Homework

This week's homework...

Here you will find your child’s homework for the week ahead.

We have a suggestion for homework that can be completed across the week, with reading being a priority for every day.

  Monday – spellings

Tuesday – maths (Year 1s Maths Seeds Year 2s Mathletics)

  Wednesday – spellings

Thursday – maths (Year 1s Maths Seeds Year 2s Mathletics / Times Tables Rock Stars)

Friday – Write to the Top will be set and this needs to be talked through ready for your child to write on a Monday

Text for this half term

During this half term we are reading a collection of the Katie Morag stories - by Mairi Hedderwick.

We will be looking at where they are set, who the characters are and how the stories develop. We will then be writing our own versions based on one of the Katie Morag stories.

Reading

It is recommended that reading takes place every day. Children who are using the Accelerated Reader system will continue to select books from the library at least once a week. These can be read at home and then returned to school when ready to quiz on. (They should be read at least twice)

For others the following approach will continue this half term:-

Books can be changed once returned to school. Reading for pleasure books are available to be chosen each day.

All children bring home a book related to their Read, Write Inc work and also have log in details for Oxford Owl to access the books being read in school.

Writing a recount

This week we had our amazing trip to Layer Marney Tower. For our WTTT this week we would like you to write a recount of your trip. (If you were unable to go, you can write about a day of your weekend)

To support your child for this please discuss the following:-

  • Where did you go?
  • What did you do?
  • Who were you with?
  • What was your favourite part of the day?

Can you use some of these time words to describe your day? Can you get the activities in the right order?

Remember to draw pictures and write key words down to support you with your WTTT.

Spellings

Spellings now follow in line with each groups Read, Write Inc work. Therefore there are not weekly spelling rules - children are learning the sounds, tricky words and words through their lessons. These can be found listed in the front of the Book Bag Books which are brought home each week.

In addition the common exception words are also being taught for years 1 and 2. These can all be found in the back of the jotters.

Year 2 also work through spelling rules.

During the second half term of this Autumn Term the common exception words will be worked on each week.
