Uniform

Uniform is an important part of a school's identity. It reinforces who we are as a community and helps allow children to feel pride in their school. It ensures children are not put under any pressure because of the type of clothes they wear and that no child feels disadvantaged in any way. It avoids distractions in class and children taking pride in dressing smartly regularly translates to pride in their work and an attentive attitude to learning.

General uniform (e.g. trousers, shorts, dresses) can be bought from any shop or supermarket, but for embroidered school uniform we use Gooddies at https://gooddies.co.uk

Uniform List

  • Black or dark grey skirt, trousers, pinafore dress (winter) or shorts (summer)
  • White blouse, shirt or polo shirt
  • Royal blue school sweatshirt or cardigan (not hoodie)
  • Royal blue and white gingham dress (summer)
  • Coat (weather appropriate)

Trousers and shorts must be tailored. Leggings, jeggings or jeans are not appropriate for the school day. During the hot summer weather children are encouraged to wear a sunhat or baseball cap outside. Coats can be of any style or colour and are needed regularly so that the children can go outside at break and lunch.

Black footwear must be worn, and this can be a flat black shoe, trainer or ankle boot with no coloured trim or heel.

Physical Education

PE takes place both indoors and outdoors throughout the school year so some apparel will depend on the activity and season.

  • Coloured t-shirt – see teams below
  • Black shorts
  • Plimsolls
  • Dark jumper and tracksuit bottoms – please keep logos discreet
  • Trainers – this must be a change of footwear

Only small stud earrings may be worn, and these should be removed by either parents or the child for PE. Watches may be worn as their use is considered beneficial in learning how to tell the time; however they should be removed for all physical activity. Hair decorations (bands etc) should be discreet and during physical activity, long hair must be tied back with a simple hair band. In order to maintain a focus on learning, all hair must be of a natural colour.

PE kits should be kept in a drawstring bag. Large holdall bags are not encouraged because of the limited cloakroom space.

Remember - All items of clothing must be marked clearly with your child’s name. The more practise the children can get dressing and undressing independently the easier our job is in September.

Teams

Each pupil will be allocated a team before they start school. They will stay in this team for their time at St Luke’s and it will be used for both sports day competition and the collation of Marvellous Me badges, which is our school reward system.
