KS2 outcomes remain above the national average with the percentage achieving the expected Reading, Writing and Maths (RWM) combined standards in the top 38% of schools in the country and the percentage achieving the higher standard being in the top 25% of schools.
This demonstrates the commitment of the school to provide a broad curriculum for the children that will prepare them for life after St Luke’s and the Church of England’s commitment to preparing children to have abundant flourishing lives.
St Luke’s has a history of excellent writing outcomes and has consistently (since 2018) been in the top 20% of school for children reaching the higher standard. This year a review of the materials that we are using to support writers alongside regular opportunities to write (WTTT) have resulted in excellent writing outcomes for all children and the school in now in the top 5% of schools for children achieving the end of KS2 writing standard.

The percentage of children achieving the expected standard in mathematics continues to be above national however the percentage of children achieving the higher standard has been on the decline in the last three years. While a lack of EYFS and KS1 data means that there is no official progress measure the school needs to do more to challenge the children in the areas of Algebra, Ration and Proportion, and Geometry - position and direction.

C Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division (calculations)
A Algebra
F Fractions, decimals and percentages
P Geometry - position and direction
G Geometry - properties of shapes
M Measurement
N Number and place value
R Ratio and proportion
S Statistics
After last year’s excellent reading outcomes, the school fell behind the national averages for both children reaching the expected standard and the higher standard despite the percentage of correct responses by the pupils being 1% below that national. The school has significant work to do in the teaching of both ‘Make comparisons within the text’ and ‘Identify and explain how meaning is enhanced through choice of words and phrases’.

2a Give / explain the meaning of words in context
2b Retrieve and record information / identify key details from fiction and non-fiction
2c Summarise main ideas from more than one paragraph
2d Make inferences from the text / explain and justify inferences with evidence from text
2h Make comparisons within the text
2g Identify / explain how meaning is enhanced through choice of words and phrases
In addition to a teacher writing assessment the Year 6 children complete a test on grammar, punctuation and spelling. This does not impact on the children’s combined RWM outcome.
