Uniform

Uniform is an important part of a school's identity. It reinforces who we are as a community and helps allow children to feel pride in their school. It ensures children are not put under any pressure because of the type of clothes they wear and that no child feels disadvantaged in any way. It avoids distractions in class and children taking pride in dressing smartly regularly translates to pride in their work and an attentive attitude to learning.
General uniform (e.g. trousers, shorts, dresses) can be bought from any shop or supermarket, but for embroidered school uniform we use Gooddies at https://gooddies.co.uk
To ensure that every child feels part of our school community and gets the uniform that they need we also hold a stock of preloved uniform that is available for free or a small voluntary donation.
Children’s uniform needs to be appropriate for the primary school setting and where expectations are not met, we will handle this inline with our behaviour policy. In serious cases, we will invite parents in to get their child changed.

During the hot summer weather children are encouraged to wear a sunhat or baseball cap outside. Coats can be of any style or colour and are needed regularly so that the children can go outside at break and lunch.
We are currently in the process of phasing out black items from our uniform and ask that all new items purchased are dark grey or charcoal however for the next couple of years (2026/27 & 2027/28) we will not be enforcing dark grey or charcoal.
Physical Education & Teams
PE takes place both indoors and outdoors throughout the school year so some apparel will depend on the activity and season. The table above provides some flexibility for the children depending on the time of year and the PE that they are partaking in.
Sports kits for clubs should be kept in a drawstring bag. Large holdall bags are not encouraged because of the limited cloakroom space.

Each pupil will be allocated a team before they start school. They will stay in this team for their time at St Luke’s and it will be used for both sports day competition and the collation of Marvellous Me badges, which is our school reward system.
Earrings, Watches and Hair
Only small stud earrings may be worn, and these should be removed by either parents or the child for PE. Watches may be worn as their use is considered beneficial in learning how to tell the time; however they should be removed for all physical activity. Hair decorations (bands etc) should be discreet and during physical activity, long hair must be tied back with a simple hair band. In order to maintain a focus on learning, all hair must be of a natural colour.
