Writing a recount
We hope you are looking forward to the half term holiday. On Tuesday 3rd November, in WTTT, we would like you to write about a day or an event from during your half term week.

To support your child for this please discuss the following:
- Where did you go?
- What did you do?
- Who were you with?
- What was your favourite part of the day?
Can you use some of these time words to describe your half term? Can you get activities in the right order?
Remember to draw pictures and write keywords down to support you with your WTTT.

Text for this half term
During the second half of the Autumn term we will be developing our narrative skills through reading the book - 'The Three Little Pigs'.
We are using this to work through our Talk for Writing program - retelling the story in 5 clear sentences with actions, placing these on a backwards s map, text map and then rewriting the story. Finally, we will innovate these and develop our own stories.
Reading
It is recommended that reading takes place every day. Children who are using the Accelerated Reader system will continue to select books from the library at least once a week. These can be read at home and then returned to school when ready to quiz on. (They should be read at least twice)
For others the following approach will continue this half term:-
Books can be changed once returned to school. Reading for pleasure books are available to be chosen each day.
All children bring home a book related to their Read, Write Inc work and also have log in details for Oxford Owl to access the books being read in school.
Spellings
Spellings now follow in line with each groups Read, Write Inc work. Therefore there are not weekly spelling rules - children are learning the sounds, tricky words and words through their lessons. These can be found listed in the front of the Book Bag Books which are brought home each week.
In addition the common exception words are also being taught for years 1 and 2. These can all be found in the back of the jotters.
Year 2 also work through spelling rules.
